Assignment Due Tuesday 10/29: Using Quotations - Short quotations (3 lines or less)
Please print before class.
Use your source material for the research paper you are working on in this class. Answer the following prompts. For each, be sure to
focus on using the correct MLA citation format and punctuation. Use signal phrases and parenthetical citations with page numbers where needed.
1. Find some information in your source material that you think is
better to quote rather than summarize or paraphrase. Write a sentence
with a signal phrase that introduces the quote. Explain or analyze the
quote in a sentence or two in your own words.
2. Find some information in your source material that is better to
paraphrase or summarize. Write about it in a few sentences. Don't
forget to give the correct citation.
3. If possible, find a quotation in your source material that was not
created by the author of the publication. Introduce this quote in your
own words and use the correct citation (qtd. in ... ).
4. Quote some information and use an interrupter.
5. Write a sentence in which you combine your own
ideas/summarizing/paraphrasing with a quotation of a few words or a
phrase. Integrate the phrase into your own sentence structure. Practice
using editing marks like ... or [ ].
